ST. GEORGE —From boujee name brands to business logos and even memorial tumblers, this Central woman is creating epoxy magic for people all across the United States.
Lori Pierce, a lifelong crafter who retired from the workforce 10 years ago, told St. George News she loves to stay busy. Unable to remain stagnant for fear of getting bored, she’s found a new love for creative design through handmade tumblers you won’t find anywhere else.
“The tumblers give me so much freedom with creativity,” she said. “This is definitely my jam right now.”
With past crafts including everything from home decor to seasonal magic, Pierce said she was introduced to epoxy when her daughter, also a crafter, suggested they try it out. Initially starting the creative process in her daughter’s garage, her daughter didn’t enjoy the epoxy process, but she fell in love.
“It took me about a year to get everything where I wanted it to be,” Pierce said. “Creating them is a bit of a process but I really love working with the glitter and designing things. The possibilities are what got me hooked.”
Two years ago, Pierce made a Facebook page for her business, Glitter and Shine Design , and quickly began to receive orders from people all over the country. She attended her first local market alongside her daughter’s home decor business on Aug. 6.
“Over the last three years, I’ve been concentrating on this because I just love doing this,” she said.”You take one regular, stainless steel, ugly tumbler and you can make it into something really pretty.”
Made out of double-walled tumblers that are sanded, prepped, then designed with custom designs through Cricut Design Space, Pierce said each tumbler takes up to four coats to complete. Now with a full setup in her own garage, she has multiple turners that allow the epoxy to cure level and even.
To avoid boredom, Pierce said she’s always creating something new and trying different techniques. She finds inspiration and continual learning from YouTube along with designs she sees online. Not only are the final products unique, but they are also functional, and each tumbler keeps beverages hot or cold for a full 24 hours.
Her favorite designs? Memorial tumblers. Pierce said they are a special way to keep loved ones and even pets close on a daily basis. She said most of the memorial cups are ordered as gifts for a loved one who is grieving and are an emotional moment for the recipient.
“It’s really something that they can cherish and a neat way to remember their loved ones,” she said. “There’s not another gift out there quite like it.”
She’s created many memorial tumblers, including one for he sister-in-law after she lost her beloved Doberman and one for her son-in-law while he was in the hospital, which included pictures of him and his wife together doing things they loved – such as spending time outdoors in their all-terrain vehicle.
“The personalization is what makes them like nothing else, and that’s my favorite thing,” Pierce said.
Along with epoxy tumblers, Pierce also makes epoxy keychains and refillable, epoxy pens made to last forever.
