STEUBENVILLE — Jim Wood Park in Steubenville’s West End will be the setting Saturday for Bark in the Park organized by the Jefferson County Humane Society.

“The biggest pet adoption festival ever” will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be a “fun-filled day geared toward pets — both owned and those looking for homes,” explained Brandi DeNoon Damewood, JCHS marketing manager/public relations.

The event is free, but attendees are asked to bring a can of dog food to donate.

“Jefferson County Humane Society has put together an amazing pet festival and invited other local shelters to help find homes for all pets in need, not just the ones in our shelter,” she explained, noting five rescues will have numerous pets available for adoption.

There also will be contests for pets and their owners with prizes for the winners, face painting and pumpkin painting for children, shopping at the multiple vendors on hand and food trucks along with a Blessing of the Pets and police K-9 demonstration.

JCHS Clinic will have the low-cost mobile vaccination clinic available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, and there will be booths set up for each part of the organization to answer questions and promote the programs available. The shelter will be closed on Saturday, however, because of this event.

The schedule of special events is:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m., vaccination clinic; 11:15 a.m., Look like your Pet contest; noon, Sgt. Rob Cook Police K-9 demo; 1 p.m., Blessing of the Pets; 2 p.m., costume contest for pets; and 3 p.m., pie eating contest for pets.

Ongoing activities include face painting, pumpkin painting, food, vendors and adopt-a-pet.

Rescues in attendance are Jefferson, Harrison, Columbiana, Hancock and Brooke county shelters.

The low-cost mobile vaccination clinic offerings and prices are $15 for each vaccination; $20, microchip; and $10, nail trim.

Vendors include food trucks, some with vegan options; pet items; clothing; homemade body soaps; scrubs; lotions; candles; crafts; homemade dog treats; wood signs; boutique clothing; jewelry; graphic T-shirts and accessories; dog toys; wax bars; warmers; hats; pet bandanas; tumblers; stuffed animals; keychains; custom stickers; and hand-poured candles.

Space remains available for vendors. Call (740) 314-5583 for information.
